The tour starts with a visit to one of the most Instagram-famous locations in Mexico's Caribbean - Las Coloradas, or Pinky Lakes. You will have a chance to take some photos, and then we will head to the Rio Lagartos Biosphere Reserve.
After Las Coloradas, we will have a 1,5 to 2-hour guided boat tour in the Rio Lagartos Biosphere Reserve. Here, you can observe a lot of different kinds of birds, including flamingos.
Rio Lagartos has almost 400 species of birds roosting up in the mangrove trees, but the real stars of Rio Lagartos are American flamingos. These flamingos are one of the longest-lived of all birds, and one of the tallest at around 140 centimeters high. American flamingos are the most flamboyantly colored of all the flamingo species, which are much paler.
The next attraction of the day is a "Mayan bath" with mud or white clay. No one knows why exactly it is so good for skin, but it does leave the skin extremely soft. Then, you will have some time to swim and take the mud off your body.
After Rio Lagartos, we will have a lunch break. You will be offered a delicious traditional local dish.
The day will end with a guided visit to the Mayan ruins of Ek Balam. Ek Balam may not be as famous or as large as Chichen Itza or Coba, but it is still quite an impressive archaeological site. Here, you can still climb the pyramids. The view from the top of the Ek Balam Acropolis is breathtaking.
