The tour starts with a guided visit to the ruins of the ancient Mayan city Coba. A certified expert in Mayan history will accompany you and share some interesting facts about the archaeological site.
You will learn about the history behind the archaeological site of Coba, as well as the customs and traditions of the Maya peoples who lived there long before the Spanish Invasion.
Then, you will have the opportunity to climb the pyramid Nohoch Mul, one of the tallest pyramids in Mexico, and enjoy a breathtaking view of the jungle.
After the ruins, we will head for a refreshing swim in Multum-Ha, a big closed underground cenote located a few minutes away from Coba. You will have some free time at the cenote to enjoy the swim and relax a little bit.
As soon as we’re done with swimming, it’s time for lunch. For a traditional Mexican lunch in the house of a local Mayan family. There, you also will see how the food is prepared and learn to make hand-made tortillas.
Afterwards, we will go to a local Mayan community Punta Laguna, which is often called “the monkey sanctuary”. There, we will have a long walk through the jungle searching for monkeys, have a relaxing boat trip around a lagoon, and go zip-lining above the water.
During this tour, you will also be able to experience a Mayan purification ceremony with copal. Copal is a tree resin that comes from a healer tree family called Bursera that is sacred to the Maya. Copal was widely used in ritual offerings and ceremonies, and mass quantities of copal resin were burned atop Aztec and Mayan pyramids.
